It is time to pick up my pen again after a lengthy absence due to travel and a variety of things. Poverty is not part of the national front page of political discourse right now, but it is coming. Reverend William Barber, Jr. and many others have been organizing for the last two years in more than 23 states preparing to launch a National Call for Moral Renewal on Mother's Day 2018. It is timely if we remember that Mother's Day began after the Civil War as a call to end a war economy and build a new civil society.
